Red Clay Consulting Completes Successful Implementation of Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management at Orlando Utilities Commission in Less Than Six Months

Atlanta-based Red Clay Consulting and Oracle announced today that they have completed implementation of Red Clay’s SmartGridONE (SG1) offering powered by Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management at Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC—The Reliable One).   Built upon Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management 2.0, Red Clay Consulting’s SG1 is a flexible, affordable and complete meter-to-cash MDM solution that helps utilities lower their total cost of ownership, reduce implementation risk and accelerate their MDM deployment.  Red Clay Consulting’s SG1 supports meter data management needs while providing a foundation for the future. SG1 comes standard with pre-configured and pre-tuned software, hardware and database.

“Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management was the most complete and cost effective solution for our business needs, and with Red Clay’s unique appliance approach and proven track record of Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management implementations, it was an ideal pairing,” says Chip Merriam, OUC Vice President, Legislative & Regulatory Compliance.

With Red Clay’s SG1 powered by Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management, OUC went live in less than six months. The meter data management system will enable daily meter reads that increase billing accuracy to help improve customer billing and revenue protection.  With the completion of the Phase 1 of Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management, OUC has a solid foundation that is expected to lead to improved business processes.

“OUC can quickly and accurately get 95 to 97 percent of their reads on the first day of the bill window, while at the same time eliminating the manual collection of no-reads,” says Beth Kearns, Managing Partner at Red Clay Consulting.

“Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management provides Orlando Utilities Commission with the flexibility needed to configure and streamline their IT systems, while consolidating vast amounts of data into one system,” said Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Utilities.  “This successful implementation further exemplifies Oracle Utilities’ commitment to helping utilities achieve their smart grid initiatives, now and in the future.”

Red Clay’s focus within Oracle Utilities solutions is on Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management (MDM), Oracle Utilities Smart Grid Gateway (SGG), Oracle Utilities Mobile Workforce Management (MWM), Oracle Utilities Operational Device Management (ODM), Oracle Utilities Billing Component, and Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement.

Dec. 2, 2015 –  Atlanta-based Red Clay Consulting announced today that the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has successfully implemented Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement to produce settlement ready data for Ontario’s wholesale electricity market.

The solution uses Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement to validate, estimate and edit (VEE) 5-minute interval meter data collected from the IESO’s wholesale meters and calculates settlement aggregation data for over 2,300 delivery points within Ontario. Red Clay Consulting configured a user interface which provides IESO users with the capability to VEE metered data, and to configure and model delivery points and calculations prior to their promotion to production. The solution also includes web services which provide the stakeholder market participants access to their metered and totalized data.

“Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement provides the IESO with a commercial off-the-shelf solution that can be configured to meet our specific needs,” said Richard Zaworski, Manager, Meter Data Management at IESO. “Red Clay’s expertise with this Oracle Utilities’ solution and experience implementing similar projects, gave the IESO the confidence that the team can deliver a quality solution to meet our needs. We are extremely satisfied with the end result, which has provided us a platform for growth.”

According to Karan Singh, Managing Director at Red Clay Consulting, “IESO recognized that Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement was an extremely flexible and versatile product that would accommodate the IESO’s current requirements while providing them with a platform that they can build upon to incorporate future business needs. Red Clay clearly demonstrated that our experience and knowledge of the Settlement process in Ontario and ability to configure Oracle Utilities Load Profiling and Settlement based on IESO’s specific requirements was critical in the success of this project. IESO had some extremely complex requirements around aggregation of usage data and the User Interface experience for both internal and external market participant users. IESO and Red Clay’s resources worked well together in delivering an ideal solution for the Ontario market.”

The Oracle Utilities’ solution was selected in May 2013.
